The Marine and Fisheries Agency is an executive agency of DEFRA (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs).

We are responsible for the monitoring, surveillance and control of fishing activity within British fishery waters adjacent to England and Wales.

We manage fishing licenses, UK quotas and fishing industry grants. We also control Licensing of marine consents for construction, dredging and disposal, Licensing of marine aggregates dredging and monitoring, control and enforcement of marine construction sites.

The MFA also deals with Major oil spills and pollution incidents at sea, the approval of treatment products and coordination of environmental aspects of emergency response.
